# Sleigh Route Command - Medium Difficulty
## Solution Guide (Staff Reference)

**Map:** Eurasia Region
**Difficulty:** Route Specialist ★★
**Waypoints:** 6 cities
**Route Markers:** 6

---

## Correct Route

1. **Tokyo, Japan** - "Locate the eastern capital where tradition meets technology"
   - Landmark: Imperial Palace

2. **Delhi, India** - "Navigate to the city with the great Red Fort"
   - Landmark: Red Fort

3. **Athens, Greece** - "Chart course to the ancient city with the Parthenon"
   - Landmark: Parthenon

4. **Istanbul, Turkey** - "Find the city bridging two continents at the Bosphorus"
   - Landmark: Bosphorus Strait

5. **Paris, France** - "Head to the city of lights and the Eiffel Tower"
   - Landmark: Eiffel Tower

6. **Lagos, Nigeria** - "Complete route to Africa's largest city"
   - Landmark: Lekki Conservation Centre

## Reed Switch Wiring (Series Circuit - Anti-Cheat Design)

**Circuit Path:**
```
Power Source (+)
  → Tokyo reed switch
  → Delhi reed switch
  → Athens reed switch
  → Istanbul reed switch
  → Paris reed switch
  → Lagos reed switch
  → Workshop Beacon LED
  → Ground (-)
```

**How It Works:**
- All 6 waypoints must have magnets correctly placed to complete circuit
- One incorrect marker = circuit broken = beacon off
- Players receive 11 route markers (6 correct + 5 wrong positions)
- Must place only correct 6 markers in sequence

**Anti-Cheat Features:**
1. Series wiring prevents brute force (can't just place all 11 markers)
2. Extra markers deliberately scattered around wrong cities
3. Reference sheet includes 15 red herring cities with landmarks

---

## Other Cities on Map (Red Herrings)

These cities appear on the map and reference sheet but are NOT part of the route:

- Oslo (Royal Palace)
- Stockholm (Gamla Stan)
- Moscow (Red Square)
- Amsterdam (Canal Houses)
- Vienna (Schönbrunn Palace)
- Barcelona (Sagrada Família)
- Rome (Colosseum)
- Casablanca (Hassan II Mosque)
- Cairo (Pyramids of Giza)
- Dubai (Burj Khalifa)
- Mumbai (Gateway of India)
- Bangkok (Grand Palace)
- Kuala Lumpur (Petronas Towers)
- Hanoi (Temple of Literature)
- Beijing (Forbidden City)

**Total cities on map:** 21
**Cities with reed switches:** 6 (the route)
**Red herring cities:** 15

---

## Station Materials

1. **Clue Card** (5"×7") - Navigation Protocol with 6 sequential clues
2. **Map Label** (11"×3" landscape) - "EURASIA ROUTE / Route Specialist ★★"
3. **Reference Sheet** (8.5"×11") - World Landmarks Database with all 20 cities
4. **Route Markers** - 11 magnetic pieces (6 correct + 5 extras)
5. **Terrain Map** - Custom illustrated Eurasia map with 20 cities marked
6. **Workshop Beacon** - LED indicator controlled by reed switches

---

## Verification Protocol

**When players believe they've completed the route:**

1. Check if Workshop Beacon is illuminated
   - YES → Route correct, congratulate players
   - NO → At least one marker is incorrect or missing

2. If beacon is off, offer hint system:
   - "Check your clues match the landmarks exactly"
   - "Make sure you're following the sequence in order"
   - "The reference sheet includes cities NOT on the route"

3. Do NOT reveal correct answers - let players problem-solve

---

## Setup Instructions

**Pre-Event:**
1. Install reed switches at 6 route city positions on map
2. Wire switches in series with Workshop Beacon LED
3. Test circuit with magnets - beacon should light only with all 6 correct
4. Mount map on wall with label above
5. Place clue cards and reference sheets at station table

**During Event:**
1. Give each group 1 clue card (reusable, laminated)
2. Point to reference sheet on table/wall
3. Hand out set of 11 route markers
4. "Follow the protocol to complete Santa's route. The Workshop Beacon will light when you succeed."

**Reset Between Groups:**
- Remove all magnets from map
- Return 11 markers to container
- Clue card and reference sheet stay at station

---

## Troubleshooting

**Beacon won't light even with correct placement:**
- Check all reed switch connections
- Verify magnet polarity/strength
- Test each switch individually with multimeter

**Players stuck:**
- Hint at using reference sheet to match landmarks
- Remind them clues are sequential (not all at once)
- Suggest they verify each city before moving to next clue

**Too easy / Too hard:**
- Medium difficulty should take 8-12 minutes
- If consistently faster: may need to adjust clues to be less direct
- If consistently stuck: reference sheet may need clearer organization

---

**Estimated Play Time:** 8-12 minutes
**Recommended Age:** 10+
**Group Size:** 2-6 players optimal
